Topic:  Research methodology

Resource Person:          Prof (Dr) GN Suma
HOD, Department of Oral Medicine and Rdaiology,
                                         Faculty of Dental Sciences,
                                         Associate Dean,Research & Development,
                                        SGT University, Gurugram

Abstract:-

 What is research?

Research is a systematic study or re-searching the facts and principles, conducted in the interest of the humanity. Barriers to participation in research in day to day practice  include lack of time, lack of resources, trial-specific issues, communication difficulties, conflicts between the role of clinician and scientist, inadequate research experience and training.

Selecting an appropriate research methodology and relevant methods for   dissertation work is one of the key decisions for novice researchers.

Objectives:

The workshop will create opportunities to learn about issues such as, how research paradigm implies research methodology , selecting  the right  research design  and research methods, and scientific writing.

The workshop has a strong interactive focus, covering  a mixture of topics such as

  1. Role of Research  in academics and clinical practice in the specialty of Oral Medicine and Radiology.
  2. Research methodology
  3. Tips on Funding opportunities and  Scientific writing

Who can attend?

The post graduate students  and the faculty / clinicians interested in understanding the role of research in their practice, in the process of  scientific writing, looking for integrating research in day to day practice, or  looking for proposal writing for grants,  are invited to attend this preconference workshop.

Topic:  Lasers in dentistry – Lectures and Hands- on workshop on Current Updates

Resource Person:           Dr Nitin Agarwal
HOD, Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology,
                                         Career Dental College, Lucknow.

Dr. Nitin Agarwal completed his graduation in 1997 from A.B. Shetty Institute of Medical and Dental Science, Mangalore and received his masters in Oral Medicine and Radiology from S.D.M College of Dental Sciences, Dharwad is 2002. He was also a member of the executive committee of IAOMR for the year 2013.

His special interest includes lasers in dentistry. In this pursuit he has achieved his standard proficiency certificate in laser dentistry from the Academy of Laser Dentistry, USA in 2011. His long association with the   Indian chapter of Academy of laser Dentistry has been in the capacity of its founder member. His special expertise includes treatment of oral mucosal lesions with laser. He is presently involved in various research projects in use of diode lasers in challenging clinical problems of dentistry. He has also published numerous research articles in international and national journals and concurrently presented numerous scientific researches in various conferences across the globe along the years.

Abstract:- Lasers are a high tech tool and have proved to be useful in all aspects of life and dentistry is no exception. Till date no other tool has been introduced in dentistry which is useful in all specialties of dentistry. This interactive lecture and hands on course shall provide every dental practitioner with basic knowledge on various aspects of hard and soft tissue lasers and recognize its clinical applications.

Objectives include

  1. Basic laser physics: how & why lasers work
  2. Recognize clinical applications
  3. Recognize appropriate laser- tissue interaction
  4. Adhere to safety and infection control standards.
  5. Learn to successfully integrate lasers in your practice

Topic:  Basic Life Support

Resource Person:           Prof. Nitish Naik

                                        (Course Director, BLS & ACLS)

Abstract:-

Why should Health Care Professionals learn about Basic Life Support (BLS) ?

Basic Life Support (BLS) is a simple life-saving protocol following a cardiac arrest. It is an integral part of emergency resuscitative care that aims to retain sufficient circulation and ventilation until the cause of the arrest is detected and eliminated.

As a health care professionals, dental practitioners are also encounter life-threatening medical emergencies. A study by Müller et al. found that medical emergencies are not rare in dental practice, as about two-thirds of Dentists faced at least one emergency during the 12-month of study period. In the context of medical emergencies, provision of a competent BLS carries a potential impact on lives.

It is recommended that all the Health Care Professionals, who are exposed to patients, must be trained to offer BLS.It has been reported that knowledge and practice of BLS increase the survival of patients after cardiac arrest.

The BLS courses enhance the life support skills while provide training in effective  team dynamics. The main goal of this exercise is to improve patient outcomes by sustaining life and reduce the mortality and disability rates from cardiovascular dideases and stroke.

AIIMS ITC Team:

CPR is a time critical, fast-changing, complex and error-prone medical practice. Teamwork is vital to the success of high quality CPR, but so far we lack a simple and easy to learn teamwork model. BLS course is designed for this purpose only. Based on this principle, under the guidance of  Prof. Nitish Naik (Course Director, BLS & ACLS)  AIIMS International Training Centre have a excellent team of Faculty & Instructors with good expertise who gives BLS training to all the Doctors & Nurses.
